Meet The Hombre

Hello. I’m Richard Najar a.k.a. The Wood Hombre. Woodworking has been a big part of my life ever since I was in middle school. These days I love creating custom shadow boxes, gifts, plaques, furniture, or just about anything from wood. If you can dream it, I can make it!

As an active duty service member, I understand the sacrifice and hard work that defines a military career. Over the years I have noticed that when many of my friends retired, they had nothing more than a generic, cheaply made shadow box to commemorate their years of unselfish service to our country. The options to choose from were limited to say the least.

In 2012, a buddy knew my love of woodwork and asked me to create a one of a kind shadow box. Challenge accepted!

What he wanted was something that reflected his passion while serving as a Navigator and ultimately his Navy career but didn’t have any idea how to display it. The only direction I was given was to surprise him. So, in designing his box I decided to create a custom sea chest that embodied the “reflection of his life” now and when he was in the Navy. For this, I incorporated a hidden shadow box, inside the chest lid behind a two-way mirror. Now he could not only see himself but with the flip of a switch he could see a detailed reminder of what he had accomplished over the years. Talk about a “Wow” factor! To top it off I got a hold of a few charts he actually piloted on and incorporated those into the box as well. Needless to say, the box was a big hit and that was the beginning of the Wood Hombre.

Since then, I have completed hundreds of projects. I love working with customers to find out exactly what they want and then surpassing their expectations.
